This is a HUGE opportunity for us- and we would love if you could join us! This will also be our first FULL band show since our cd release last November and we can't wait!
So- save the date and get your tickets in advance! - PS: WE HAVE DISCOUNT TICKETS!!! Shoot us a message and we will send them your way or put them on will call at the door! Venues like advance ticket sales...and if we can help them with that- then they'll like us too! :) If you do get your tickets through the Trocadero website- make sure you let them know at the door the night of the show that you came to see your favorite cello driven rock band :)
Thank you to ALL who came out Friday night to celebrate the release of our new album Up Up Down Down!!! You seriously blew our minds- packing out the First Unitarian Church and absolutely flooring us with with your amazing love and support! We could not have done this without you...seriously. We are so incredibly grateful for fans, friends and family like you! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Stay tuned for new shows and tour dates- coming soon! This is only the beginning ...
Friday night we finally got to reveal the date and venue for the CD release concert of our new album- "Up Up Down Down"! And we can't WAIT!! We will be joined by the Philadelphia Boy's Choir, a chamber orchestra and FULL band for an amazing night in which we will perform our whole NEW ALBUM from beginning to end- featuring songs never yet heard LIVE! There may also be a few special GUEST APPEARANCES of some very special friends (both old and new!) of the Alfred James Band! Stay tuned for more details!
THANK YOU PHILADELPHIA for a fantastic show at World Cafe Live on Friday night! We had a blast sharing the stage with our friends from Atlas Gray for a great night of music making and fun! You all really made our whole summer...It's been a busy season for us- finishing our record (!?!) and traveling here, there and everywhere!...But playing for a room full of Philly fans and friends will always feel like home and we can't thank you enough for your love and support!
SO EXCITED!!!- On September 9th at World Cafe Live we will officially be announcing the date of our CD release show(!!) and there will also be an album pre-ordering station at our merch tablel!!! See you there!
If you've come out to a show these past couple of months you may have noticed a few NEW FACES jammin' out with us! We'd like to take a moment to formally introduce our new friends who have jumped on the cello-rock band wagon and brought their own funky energy into the mix!
First of all, a little explanation regarding our apparent band member "rotation" if you will...As you may have noticed, our awesome devilishly good looking, mind numbingly talented guitarist Mr. Avery Coffee has been MIA as of late-- for the BEST POSSIBLE REASON! Apparently we share our good eyes and ears for talent and searing good looks with the inimitable Chubby Checker. Our good man has been picked up by the master himself for a bunch of tours over the course of this upcoming year, and as much as we will miss his face, his shredding, and ...bottomless stomach, we are more than happy to let Chubby borrow our Mr. Coffee for awhile...you'll bring him back...RIGHT?!? Haha...We wish him the best and hope we'll still be able to steal him back from time to time!
In the meantime, however...We have found ourselves some Mr. Coffee-approved players who are absolutely KILLIN'!!! Keep an eye out for these amazing musicians at an upcoming show and feel free to introduce yourselves! They may be nasty nasty shredders...but they won't bite! ;)
Also, new in the mix- We've got rhythm...in the form of some really, really sick drummin' MACHINES- These guys are monsters folks...Check out Mr. Lionel Forrester Jr. and Mr. Brandon King on the drums! Come see either of them lay it down at an upcoming show! (See calendar for dates and details!)
You won't wanna miss 'em...cuz they'll miss you!
Greg Moore: Acoustic and Electric Guitar
Ismail Yusef-Ali Abdus-Salaam: Acoustic and Electric Guitar

We will be staying a few days each in Venice, Florence, and Rome, and will be playing shows in all three cities. It hardly needs to be said, but we’re far from the only attraction—between July 8th and 17th, you’ll see Renaissance masterworks, visit the homes of great composers, and witness the iconic architectural legacy of the ancient Romans, all with both full-time and local tour guides. There’s also a lot of unscheduled time for you to explore these beautiful cities and enjoy authentic Italian cuisine at your leisure.

Last November Alfred and the band had the great honor of performing with piano great, Richard Cherubini at Cherubini Yacht's though Circle of Friends concerts. It's with sadness we share that Richard Cherubini, age 86 died yesterday. He became a professional musician at 17 when he played with Cole Porter and in his venerable career he has played with the Duke Ellington Band, Rosemary Clooney and many many others. The music world has truly lost a legend. In November, Alfred James coaxed Rich out of the audience to jam with him on stage.
You can see a photo from the final performance right here, on the front page of our website.

We wanted to thank all of our family and friends who came out to see us at Dogfish Head in Gaithersburg last night... and unfortunately never got to see us play since we weren't able to get there! We were really bummed about missing everyone... Sadly here's what happened... We got stuck in a traffic jam on the way to the show that shut down I-95 for about 2.5 hours Sat. night. 2 motorcycles collided about 1/4 of a mile ahead of us, killing one motorcyclist and critically injuring another. It was a scary experience being that close to such a serious wreck - maybe Julie getting held up at the Wawa or the bathroom stop at the Maryland House was a blessing in disguise. Really puts things into perspective when you're that close to tragedy. So... thanks to everyone who came out and we'll be rescheduling the show, so stay tuned... Thanks also to the management and folks at Dogfish Head who were so understanding...
More press! :) Our thanks to Will Bancroft for his article on AJB in Princeton's US1 newspaper. Check out the article here!...

Please visit http://www.dmband.com/surveys/OpenerSurvey.asp and vote for the Alfred James Band as one of 5 bands you'd like to see open for DMB this summer! This could be a tremendous opportunity for us, so please help us out and spread the word to your friends!!! Thanks everyone!!!
We had a fantastic time at the NACA Mid-Atlantic conference last weekend (despite the horrendous Lancaster weather)! We met a bunch of great students and we're looking forward to seeing ya'll at your schools very soon!! And a special thank you goes out to all our "old" friends who stopped by and said hello! It was a blast! Thanks!
Our thoughts are with the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama as they begin to deal with the terrible and unimaginable destruction of Hurricane Katrina. In response to this disaster, CD Baby has started a program where artists can donate ALL profits from their CD sales to the Red Cross to help those whose lives have been devistated by the hurricane. Along with hundreds of other artists, AJB is happy to participate in this outreach. This is a great opportunity to help out.
Alfred will be performing on NBC's 10! morning show Friday, August 12th with up and coming hip hop artist Remy Hendrix. He's been doing some cello tracks for Remy's new album and it's bound to be a fun show! And... rumor has it that Stanley Clarke will be playing bass for the performance tomorrow morning (he's playing at The Mann Friday night with Bela Fleck!) Check it all out Friday morning - 10:00 - 11:00 am on NBC!!
We're counting the days until our show next Wednesday, August 3rd at Oxford Park! Alfred and Josh will be performing at The Kimmel Center next Wednesday, April 6th for The Philadelphia Songwriter's Project's Tribute to Gershwin. The show starts at 6:30 pm and there's an excellent group of Philly musicians participating in the event. And as a bonus, Alfred and his cello made the front page of The Kimmel Center's website as a part of the event's promotion. Take a look at http://www.kimmelcenter.org and click on Alfred for more details on the show!
For those of you who checked the site today and saw that Lucky If Easy wasn't on CD Baby's front page anymore, don't be alarmed! Every couple of days they pick 1 album out of 100 new releases to feature, so the site changes often. We're considering ourselves Lucky to be singled out like that... Thanks CD Baby! And you can still read their awesome review on our Press page or at cdbaby.com
The number one online distributor of independent music, CD Baby, has featured Lucky If Easy on the front page of their website and has given the album an awesome review! Take a look at http://www.cdbaby.com or visit our Press Page! We can't thank the great folks at CD Baby enough for all they do for independent music...

Our producer Scott Stalone lost his studio "Found Sound" to a flood last night in Manayunk. You might have caught him on the 10pm news tonight. Anyway the water came up to about 5', destroying most of his equipment and his entire vintage record collection. Unfortunately two of our songs for the upcoming album, "Rear View Mirror", and "Maker Maker", ended up floating in the grime. Scott is trying to salvage his Hard drives at present. The band went by yesterday to help with the cleanup. (It was really gross!) We will keep you updated and let you know if there will be any fund raising event. (Scott's flood insurance was cancelled when his policy was sold to another company, unbeknownst to him.) Scott is a really great guy and the best producer we have ever worked with. Just e-mail the band (Hilary) if you would like to offer your support.
